Professional Development

The skills and experience of our people are at the core of our values, which is why we are so committed to providing continuous learning and development opportunities, broadening skill sets and deepening industry knowledge.

We achieve this by providing national and international opportunities through internal transfers to accommodate dynamic family environments and personal preferences for living arrangements. We’re focussed on enabling continuous professional growth for our people. Our employment packages include significant funding (including paid leave) for professional development activities including tertiary study, short courses and conference attendance for use at your discretion. Some of this funding can even be used for activities to promote your general health and wellbeing, from gym membership or yoga classes to dietician services. Role -specific memberships to professional bodies are also covered.

To help facilitate professional excellence Nova has established a formal mentoring process whereby you can achieve specific professional objectives by drawing on the knowledge of your more experienced colleagues in a collaborative partnership.

We have a formal structure and funding streams within our business allowing those employees who have a passion for innovation to become involved and show their creative flair.

We also feel that it is very important to give back to the communities to which we all belong. In order to support you with commitments to voluntary emergency service activities, jury service, or Australian Defence Force Reserve service, Nova provides paid leave allowances in addition to employee’s recreation leave entitlements.

Health and Wellbeing
We recognise the importance of a healthy employee who has balance in their private and professional life.

We aim to provide a flexible work environment with physical fitness support programs to help our people enjoy all that life has to offer. When life becomes complicated and difficult we also have a program in place to allow employees access to company-funded, independent and confidential counselling services to help them overcome personal hurdles and improve their overall wellbeing.

We put a great deal of effort into employing great people, and we want them to stay. To reward your loyalty we provide recreation leave in addition to the national award of 20 days per year at the rate of one additional day per full year of service commencing after three years of service. That’s three additional days of leave after three years of service, four additional days the following year, and so on capped at 10 additional days each year from 10 years of service onwards.

A Serious Illness Leave Pool has also been created through the generosity of individual Nova employees who have donated an amount of their own accrued personal/carer’s leave. Eligible employees who may be exposed to financial hardship due to the limitations of their own personal/carer’s, annual and loyalty leave are therefore able to apply for Serious Illness Leave.

Reward and Recognition
At Nova we love to celebrate our success and a part of this is recognising the valuable and often outstanding contributions made by our people. We have a program in place which recognises employees who contribute at levels beyond expectation with rewards throughout the year ranging from cinema tickets or a bottle of wine through to significant end-of-year cash bonuses.

We fund a number of social activities throughout the year designed to bring employees and their families together in a fun environment to promote a healthy team spirit. It’s also one of Nova’s ways of saying “thank you” to our people for their dedication. Nova’s success can also be partly attributed to its strong internal networks. To facilitate a company culture where thriving professional relationships are highly valued, we host a fully-funded Nova Group Conference each year where all of the Australian-based employees get together in one place for three days.

We have agreements in place with third party organisations to allow you to salary sacrifice items including cars and additional superannuation contributions. We will also pass on discounts resulting from our business relationships wherever possible. Examples include discounted Microsoft Office software for home use, and discounted private health insurance through Defence Health. We even let you keep the frequent flyer points from your business travel!

Good people are also often hard to find, and in our experience the quickest and easiest path to high quality new employees is through our existing people. If Nova employs someone who has been introduced to us through a referral from an existing employee, we’ll thank that existing employee with a healthy referral bonus. You also deserve to share in the company’s success. We’ve established an entity called the Nova Employee Company through which qualifying employees can purchase shares, the value of which relate directly to the value of the Nova business.
